Which (if any) state did you base your Imagi-Nation on?

Was wondering about how y'all decided how big/what type of troops/etc your Imagi-Nations would comprise of? Was it a consciously planned structure or did you just start painting, or a bit of both?

For what its worth mine was roughly based on the idea of providing a Reichsarmee Brigade sized force + a few cavalry, light infantry etc units for my French army, and calculating a state & population size to maintain that.  I found the state of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel fitted the bill as a model", with a small Garde du Corps, 4 Infantry, 1 Fusilier & 1 Jager battalions, and for cavalry a Dragoon and a Hussar  regiment. (It also had the rather interesting "Voluntaire Auxiliaires" which I'm finally getting round to recruiting for myself in my own Imagi-Narrative.)

*though my Imagi-Nation only has 1 battalion per regiment, not 2 as it is 1/2 the size of Brunswick population & land wise

I based my nation, the Grand Electorate of Saxe-Freedonia, on the country ofFreedonia from the Marx Brothers' "Duck Soup" although the army was drawn from Russia and Sweden in the Seven Years War with some odd additions - Sepoys, Shilitar cavalry, and some Reichsarmee stuff.

I based mine on Russia under the Tsar. In the beginning I even collected both Russian and my own design of flag for Litharus (parts of Lithuania + parts of Belarus). Given the collections in the area it seemed to best fit needs for games and also my needs for some story-telling. All the flags are made up, based on historic or cultural styles, but only one unit is non-regulation uniform.

Wittenberg is based on Saxony; their opponents Monrovia on Hesse-Kassel.
In addition I used Brunswick for Saxe-Jarlsberg 40mm army

Gallia is based on France and my much smaller Saxe-Raschstein is Saxony. Funny thing about Saxe-Raschstein, it is almost exclusively cavalry at the moment. Well, I like Saxon cavalry. I use historical units and flags. Personalities are mostly imagineered.
Cheers,

My Saxe-Bearstein began life (rather loosely) on Hanover . . . but then I wanted to do something a bit different with their Dragoons. Then as I moved there "map position" more Eastern elements crept in.

The vile Stagonians began life as quasi-Bavarians . . . but again started adding more Eastern elements.

My Alpians were loosely based on a Swiss army.

I have several Imagi-Nations, for different periods. The main one is the Empire of Trockenbeeren-Auslese, based on the Hapsburg Empire of Austria-Hungary at the time of Charles V (Emperor Violoncello) and, later, Maria-Theresa (Empress Harmonica). The main nations opposing them are the Electorate Kingdom of Altmark-Uberheim (vaguely Prussian), and the Grand Duchy of M'yasma (vaguely Russian). The regiments are all culled from the historical armies of each, in the same way that Charles Grant used to do.

My 30YW armies are in the service of the Kingdom of Severeia (Sweden) and the Imperium of Austereia (Austria again). I have had some notion of adding an Eastern Power, the Settee Empire, vaguely Turkish...

My WW2 battles are between Orotina (Germany) the Pan-Andean People's Republic (Russia) and Gran Bolivaria (Great Britain). Set somewhere in Latin America, these conflicts are known as the Latin Wars.

A couple that are still 'on the drawing board: The Amazonian Civil War (ACW), between the United States of Anaconda (USA), and the Confederated States of Amazonia (CSA). The other is the Imperium of Ionia, which is vaguely turn-of-the-millenium Byzantine, ruled over by the Great and Good Emperor Dementius...

Comments o troops used is interesting - how do y'all use uniforms? Historical + reflagging, own design, combination?

I made my infantry subtly different to Reichsarmee troops (blue trousers mainly) but they can easily be used as them, my main tick ois re-flagging - but my ancillary troops uniforms (gunners, cavalry, lights) have their own unifoems

My little part of Europe is drawn from the 'Tales of Rubovia' BBC childrens TV puppet series, and the army is based on the British army of the Crimean War. I've had used the OOBs from Charge and the battle of Sittingbad for the opposition forces. These troops are drawn from different nations between 1815 and 1880s.

Mine´s based on mid 18th Cent "last of the Mohicans" style..as my Blog Sub titel says; "A land situated in the mid 18th century where men wear tricorns and the women wear a smile"
Clothing etc has to fit (roughly) into the time scale but flags and uniform colours are made up.

The army Hesse-Fedora isn't just based on Brunswick, it IS the Brunswick army! I had started to paint my first imaginary unit, but ended up reverting to an actual Prussian one.

So the only truly ImagiNation units I have are he ones using the Marshal Follies figures that Eureka once made.

I wonder what ever happened to that line?

Mine is (loosely) based on Monaco (with a touch of James Bond's Bahamas). Almost 8 years ago the idea of an 'EvE' play-by-email multiplayer "spies & counterspies" game was advocated and I created Monte-Cristo as a possible setting for some of the encounters. Additional inspiration came from sources as diverse as Pierre Louÿs' The adventures of King Pausole and Glen Cook's The Black Company. Actually since its creation it was used only by a few EvE members as a temporary location for some of their travelling characters

Ps: so Glad to see that 'EvE' is not dead!
